Day 5 – Meningie to Port Pirie – 448 km – 1978 km Total

Interesting day in a wierd sort of way. Did the “Tourist” route via Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Victor Harbour, Cape Jervis and then up to Adelaide.

Being on the bike helped as the scenery was again mostly farming land and yet more pine trees with the odd ocean view but it was a fun road as evidenced by all the locals out for a ride. Every little town seems to follow the standard plan of Sunday markets on the promenade so bit hard to tell them apart.

Goolwa was different in that they had power boat races on. Stayed and watched a couple of races, very quick in a straight line but not very happy in the corners.

Rode out of Adelaide and decided I would stop at the first town I came to after 4 hence Port Pirie. Interesting place, 600 people, one pub but four service station within rock throwing distance of each other.

Off to Port Augusta in the morning and then head south towards Port Lincoln till I find somewhere nice as I plan on a short day tommorow.

  1. Hi Neil,

The map says you were at Port Wakefield last night. Just wanted to check as you’ve got Port Pirie on your website. By the way those Siemens quad phone packs are finally available and I’ve ordered one! You might want to tell your friends who were also waiting on them to be in stock. Plus would you please be able to download a photo of yourself somewhere so I can show Alex! Take care. xxx

  2. Hi Neil, so you’re finally on your way (well, on your 6th day now probably). Great stuff. Now tell me Neil – do you plan on going down (over) to Coffin Bay in the next few days or are you heading West? Am interested as I maybe going there next year but wanted to know if it’s worth visiting. If you are in that area in the next few days – suss it out for me.
    Go the VStrom!
    cheers,
    robbie B
